About Us

Center for New Data is a technology non-profit using advanced data science and artificial intelligence tools to provide insights that protect democracy.

We are a team of technologists, researchers, and social impact leaders committed to building a stronger democracy for all. We are a non-partisan, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

We started in 2020 as the COVID Alliance, a volunteer coalition using big data to help public health responders in the early days of the pandemic. As we discovered the void in technology catering to the needs of civic organizations, we expanded our vision to develop new data products for those working on the frontlines of our democracy.

Our products help voting rights advocates leverage the data they need to address problems like long lines at the ballot box and disparities in voting access.

Our Approach

Non-partisan

We are committed to keeping our mission, governance, and operations free from any partisan influence. As an organization, we will never endorse nor oppose any political party, ideology, or candidate. We value democracy and individuals’ right to choose their government officials above all else.

Innovation

We apply cutting-edge methods to develop data-driven tools designed to combat entrenched problems in our democracy.

User driven

We co-design all of our products with our end users. We use participatory design methods to understand our partners’ needs and pain points, and constantly invest in user testing to maximize the utility and impact of our products.

Collaboration

Data access and advanced tools can be cost and expertise prohibitive for organizations fighting on the front lines of democracy. We make analytics accessible to groups across the country working to protect the right to vote and build a stronger democracy for all.

Access to information

We believe that Americans of every background deserve to know the state of democracy in their community, and voting rights organizations should be empowered to level the playing field.
